Why Subs Should Bring Their Own Toys

A submissive often walks into the dungeon, gets into position, and then waits for whatever will happen to happen. They don’t worry about the toys that are being used or what they need to think about – the Master or Mistress will take care of the details. A sub must take their own health and safety into their own hands, to do this it’s best for the slave to take responsibility for the toys that are being used on them.

As a sub you do not know how many people have used those toys before you or if they have been properly cleaned. By bringing your own whips, floggers, and other implements, a sub ensures a Dominant has all they need, and that the sub has all the safety they deserve from sexually transmitted diseases and other communicable diseases.

As a Dominant the only way you can make sure your scenes are hygienic and safe for both you and your sub is to either:
1) Buy new toys for each sub you play with. To put your sub’s mind at ease it is best to take them shopping with you, so they can see it is new. OR
2) Explain to your sub if they want to play they must bring only new toys or toys that have only be used by them to the scene. That for their safety you will not be supplying any equipment or toys for the scene.

A Slave’s Job and Duty

A slave should be doing all they can to make their Master or Mistress’ job easier. Whether this means arriving on time or bringing their own toys, they should actively look for ways to make their scenes more effective. Most slaves will ask their owners what they can do to prepare for a scene, but they might also want to ask if there’s anything they can bring. By offering to bring different toys, or just by bringing them along every time, this shows the slave is interested in being more than just a passive slave. They are actively helping their training process by bringing the tools they feel need to be used on them. The slave is always responsible for their own health and safety, even with long time partners.

** submissives: Do not play with any Dominant who refuses to use your toys and insists their toys are fine. If a Dominant can not accept your concerns for your health then they do not deserve to play with you.**

The Question of Safety and Health

When someone new is training the slave, it’s best for the slave to bring his or her own toys. While the Master or Mistress might be reliable in terms of providing clean conditions, it never hurts to be safe. Using their own whips and floggers will assure the slave that they will not be exposed to the skin or the blood of another past slave. Just as a person might bring their own toothbrush for an overnight, a slave will want to pack up a bag of the things they want used on them, cleaned and ready to go. This bag might also include any other items that are better for their bodies. For example, when a slave is allergic or sensitive to a certain kind of lube, the slave should bring his or her own preferred brand.

The Element of Surprise

Even though the slave might bring all of the things they want used on them, there is no telling what the Dominant might do. They might choose to use all of the items in the bag, or they might choose to use some of them in a different way than what that slave had imagined. The Master or Mistress will also get a chance to come up with a scene on the spot since they might not have seen the items in the bag until the slave shows the contents to them. This system is actually quite exciting for everyone involved, and safer.

Since a slave might want to visit a professional Master or Mistresses as a part of their development as a slave, it makes sense to have a goodie bag ready to go to these sessions. While safety is certainly a consideration of any Dom or Domme, a slave is still responsible for his or her own safety in the end. When they bring what they need, it can help to set the tone of the scene, but also the slave can more easily relax into the experience knowing they are safe.

Transmitted Diseases

When it comes to playing with another person and there is an exchange of bodily fluid, there is always a risk of catching or transmitting a disease. There are a few things you can do to reduce the risk and ensure you and your partner’s safety. None of these prevention techniques are 100% effective:

- Don’t play with another person until you feel you are comfortable within a monogamous and committed relationship. Both of you can get tested at the same time for any type of sexually transmitted disease.

- Always wear protective gear while playing together. This includes condoms, dental dams, medical gloves (which can be picked up at your local drug store) **Do not play with any person that refuses to use condoms. If you are submissive and a Dominant wants to have sex without a condom, you have the right to say “No!” Just because you are submissive does not mean the Dominant has the right to do whatever they want. It is your job to protect yourself at all times by ensuring the Dominant wears protective gear while playing with you.

- Don’t break the skin. Your skin is the first layer of defence against infection. Any time you break or puncture the skin, there is a chance of infection. If this is a type of play you enjoy, then only use equipment that has never been used before or that has only ever been used on yourself and has be properly cleaned by you.

- As stated before a submissive should bring their own BDSM gear and refuse to play with anything else. You never know who those toys have been used on or how well they have been cleaned.

- Have both your partner and yourself have regular medical check ups.

The only 100% safe and effective method for not being at risk for catching any type of sexually transmitted disease is through abstinence. This means abstaining from any sexual and BDSM related activity.

How To Be A Good Sub When You Are Sick

Chances are high that at some point of slave training, you will become sick. And when you’re sick, you might not have the ability to call ‘off’ from your slave duties. In order to make sure you are still being a good slave and doing what your Master wants you to do, here are some ways to handle the inevitable scene where you’re the victim of germs which are more dangerous than your Master/Mistress can be.

Speak Up
***************************************************

Sometimes, you just can’t avoid getting the latest bug in town, no matter what you do. The first thing you need to do is to talk to your Dom/me. He might very well tell you to stay in bed so that you can emerge a stronger slave when you’re done. And this also gives the Dom/me the chance to say no to you and to say no to your germs. You might also find this starts a good conversation about whether sickness is a reason to cancel or to reschedule a session. Talk with your Dom/me about the symptoms you are having, careful not to over-exaggerate how you are feeling. This will allow the Dom/me to determine if certain activities he had planned will still be able to go on. For example, if you can’t breathe through your nose, a gag is going to be a bad idea. Take a minute or two to check in with your Dom/me as soon as you realize that you’re sick – preferably before the session – so that you can both determine what needs to happen next.

Do Your Best in the Scene

If you end up going into the scene anyway with your sickness, the best advice is to make sure you’re doing your best. You will still need to do what your Dom/me wants you to do and while you might not feel 100%, this may also be a valuable lesson. Sometimes when slaves are pushed hard during times of illness, they can perform better than they might when they are well. Why is this? This is due to the fact that a slave who has to work harder is one that is often working harder than they might try when they are well and illness free. By showing your Dom/me that you are willing to still fight through your sickness, you will also make a strong impression on your work ethic and on your submission to your Master/Mistress.

Know Your Limits

At the same time, if you are running a high fever or your stomach is upset, it might be a good idea to be clear as to what your limits are. If you simply don’t feel well enough to go on, you need to be ready and you need to be willing to say this to your Master/Mistress, even if you’re in the middle of a scene. Speak up and let your Dom/me know that you absolutely can not do anything more. This way, your Dom/me isn’t hurting you and you’re not hurting yourself by not speaking up. You’re not a machine, after all – no matter what you might think your role is.

A good slave is going to get sick and in these times, you can choose to push yourself harder than you might otherwise. While this is a good lesson, there may be times when you are unable to do anything more or even be in a scene. It happens. You’re human. And you can always make up for the scene when you’re feeling better.

Using Video in Your BDSM Scenes

Your slave has been doing all of the things they are supposed to do for you. They are acting appropriately, trying hard to please, and they have improved more than you thought they would. So how can you begin to push them even harder when they don’t have any more agreed upon limits to push? This is where a video camera might come in. Not only does having a camera in the room add a new sense of urgency and dedication to the scene, but it can also help you with your training of your slave while also making sure they remember their place in this partnership.

Pushing That Edge

The edge is the place where your slave becomes a bit uncomfortable and begins to doubt your purpose for them. This is the place where they begin to think they are not cut out for the job of being your slave or they might have personal issues which come up when certain scenes are introduced. Video cameras bring up all sorts of issues: body image, humiliation, trust, etc. By sitting down to talk with your slave, you will begin to find out what they might think of having a video camera in your scenes, what this might do to their self esteem, what their concerns are, and how they might limit this sort of scene. You will want to talk with them about adding video to the scenes, what this means, and how this will help them as a slave.

How to Add Video to a Scene

If you’ve gotten the go ahead from the slave to use video (you must have your slave permission first), it’s time to start using it to spice up and to enhance your training scenes. The first thing you will want to do is to choose something that challenges the slave (i.e. bondage, humiliation scenes, etc.) and then let the slave know that you will be taping this particular scene. They might find that knowing they are going to be videotaped actually causes them to work harder in the scene or they might find they focus even less. It all depends on the relationship you have and the scene you plan to do. You might also want to simply put the video camera up during each scene, but only tape things when you feel things need to be taped. However, don’t tell your slave this. Have them think you are taping their every move – you’d be surprised at how quickly a slave improves as a result.

You can even assign your slave a task, such as vacuuming the living room, or cleaning the kitchen/bathroom. By setting up the video camera to monitor them it can free up your time to do what you want. Meaning you don’t have to keep your eyes on them all the time. Instead you can review the tape later to make sure your slave performed the task up to your standards. Yet your slave will still feel as if you are looming over them as they perform the task.

Watching the Videos Again

But the real work with the videos happens later, even outside of the bedroom. Taking the tapes and sitting your slave down, you can watch these tapes and critique their performance. This will add a layer of humiliation to the scenes, even after the fact. In addition, you can instruct your slave on what you would have liked to have seen and you can begin to talk to them about what you wish to do with them in the future.

Hang onto these tapes and put them in a safe place, of course, but the fact that the slave doesn’t know what you will do with your tapes is something that will keep them on edge about your relationship and the way you work together. A responsible and respectable Dominant would never release these tapes ever!

As a Dominant, creating a video of your slave is a great way to ensure that you are always watching their every move, before and after the scenes. When you begin to use video in your training, you will also find that the slave works harder and that their training is much more efficient as a whole. After all, you have the proof of whether they have been working to improve – or not.
